From Seed to Plant: How to Grow a Plant Procedural Writing and Sequencing

Thursday, March 15, 2018

Writing steps in order is a big skill, and planting a seed is the perfect way to teach it. Your students get to see the steps, sort them and write them.

This how to grow a plant writing activity takes students from seed to plant while they learn to write steps in order. Students read the printable book, put the picture sequencing cards in order on the sequencing mat, and publish their writing in a flower pot flipbook. The words on the back of each card help young writers use the right vocabulary: seed, soil, water, sunlight, sprout. It fits a spring plant unit, a procedural writing unit, or both.
