Beginning Sounds Sort Mats A-Z: Letter Sound Sort Bundle with Short Vowels

Thursday, May 30, 2019

Okay, real talk: hearing the first sound in a word is a big step, and kids need lots of hands-on turns to get there. These sort mats give every letter from A to Z a mat and 20 pictures to sort, so students practice letter sounds by moving and matching.

Beginning sounds sort mats with picture pieces for letter sound practice in pre-K and kindergarten

What is in it

  • A sound sort for every letter A to Z, including short vowels
  • 26 mats in full color and 26 in black and white
  • 20 picture pieces for each letter
  • Answer keys, storage sheets and set-up directions
  • 364 pages, printable PDF

How to use them

Students say each picture, listen for the first sound, and sort it onto the mat. The answer keys let them check their own work, so the mats fit literacy centers, busy binders and task boxes. They also make a quick check during small groups and letter of the week. See the mats in the Beginning Sounds Sort Mats preview on TPT.

Who they fit

They are made for preschool, pre-K and kindergarten, and they work well for early intervention too.
